Integrated Hydrosystem Modelling
This short course will provide an introduction to the capabilities of the advanced 3D code HydroGeoSphere (HGS). This course will review the main processes involved in the terrestrial water cycle and the mathematical representation of water, contaminant and thermal energy flow and storage. Coupled surface/variably-saturated nonlinear partial differential equations governing surface/subsurface flow and solute and thermal energy transport will be introduced, and the coupling approach utilized in HGS will be discussed. The features of HGS will be compared with other models, including MODFLOW, FEFLOW, and MIKE-SHE, and the utility of HGS will be illustrated with case study examples.
